Care of Magical Creatures
Care of Magical Creatures is a catch all campaign for our various animal welfare efforts. Read on for more information on how we have been caring for the magical creatures in our lives over the past few years.
Care of Magical Creatures 2014 This was our first Care of Magical Creatures project. We decided to start local, where so many animals are neglected, abused, abandoned, and killed. One of our members, Alice, had heard of Monika’s Doggie Rescue and looked into just how much amazing work it does in our region and how many ways she as an individual could help out. So she decided to gather a couple of equally enthusiastic reps and pay the shelter a visit to discuss what we could do, and of course hang out with a bunch of dogs, talking them for walks and volunteering with the massive task of doggie laundry the shelter faces daily. The main aim of this project was to start a relationship and learn how we can help in the future. Read Alice's awesome blog post about the campaign here. Care of Magical Creatures 2015: Koala Mittens and Joey Pouches Care of Magical (Australian) Creatures was campaign that took place largely as a single workshop day, where goal was to sew makeshift pouches for marsupials who had lost their parents in bushfires, and mittens for koalas whose poor paws had been burnt by the fires, as part of the International Fund for Animal Welfare’s Project Pouch. Project Pouch aims to provide pouches (made from 100% cotton) for orphaned joeys and other marsupials who might otherwise become ill without the warmth and comfort of their mother’s pouches. We made a large number to donate, from donated fabrics, and at the end of the day, many members went home with a stack of unused cotton and cutting patterns - to make more at home, so that we then sent off another stack later on. Care of Magical Creatures 2015:
Monika's Doggie Rescue This year we revisited Monkia's Rescue, as discussed below from our 2014 Care of Magical Creatures Project, this time organised by our member Laura, and a group of our members volunteered their time to help out with walking the dogs and other jobs that needed doing. The Deluminators hope that we can continue our relationship and make even bigger contributions in the future, and we're excited about the foundations that these smaller campaigns have been starting to build.
