THE WOLFSBANE FESTIVAL HAS BEEN POSTPONED
The Deluminators would like to thank everyone for their support of The Wolfsbane Festival. Unfortunately, due to planning difficulties, the Wolfsbane Festival is postponed. We have left the below resources so anyone who was intending on attending the festival can still access these organizations and their information. We also want to encourage everyone to check out the amazing artists, we've got links below and hope that the joy of their music can still lift up everyone's spirits even if it's not in the format we planned. We want to thank all of the organizations and musicians, and all those who were taking part in the running of The Festival, and know that without the kindness and generosity of so many this event would never have even been imaginable. We look forward to planning the event at a future stage, and hope to see everyone there!
Wolfsbane Festival will be both a music festival and a wellbeing festival, taking the positive vibe of a music festival, a safe and fun space for young people, and using that to encourage good mental (and physical) wellbeing and to open up discussion about mental health in young people. The stigma and fear society places around mental illness often causes huge obstacles in young people's ability to access resources and the help they need. The idea behind this festival is to create a space free of judgement and stigma, where getting help with mental wellbeing is normalised and supported. There will be live music, stalls with information and resources, and fun, positive, wellbeing stalls with a huge range of activities for everyone to participate in, including yoga, dance workshops, craft stalls, and much more!
All proceeds from the event (ticket and t-shirt sales) will be donated to House Of Welcome, a Sydney not-for-profit charity organisation that aims to welcome, shelter, and empower asylum seekers and refugees. Hence taking part in the Wolfsbane Festival supports not only you and your peers, but also another community who's wellbeing is at risk.

Festival T-ShirtsFestival T-Shirts are available for pre-order with your tickets (and can be collected at the door of the festival) or a limited number will be sold at the event (numbers and sizes cannot be guaranteed). All profits from the T-Shirt sales are to be donated to the charity House of Welcome. These original design shirts are a wonderful way to take a piece of the Wolfsbane Festival with you as a reminder of the experience, and are also just really cool!

Why "Wolfsbane"? |
"Wolfsbane Potion helps ease the painful symptoms of lycanthropy, so we're trying to BE the Wolfsbane Potion here, and help others deal with their mean mental health symptoms."
The Wolfsbane Festival name draws it's inspiration, as all our campaigns do, from the Harry Potter Universe. Werewolves in the Wizarding World face stigmas not unlike those suffering with mental illness face today, that they can't function in society, that they're "crazy" or a danger/risk, that there isn't a cure and its something to hide away and never discuss. These stigmas are burying our youth, and all of our society, further into their problems and their pain. The Wizarding World was also strife with misconceptions and judgements that only worsened the pain and stigma. We need to break the stigma, we need to talk about getting help, just like magical folk should talk about werewolves and about wolfsbane potion. Struggling with mental health should not make anyone feel ostracised from their community, should not make people feel like they need to hide away and battle alone, just like werewolves in the Wizarding World should not have been made to feel that way. "I see this festival not only as Wolfsbane Potion, suppressing the 'inner beast' or 'the black dog' within us all like anti depressants or anxiety medication, but almost like a day to EMBRACE the inner werewolf! Get to know it more and letting it out like how the marauders did for Lupin. We come together to adventure the Hogwarts grounds and explore our own inner 'beasts' through others perspectives." This doesn't mean letting the problems take over, it just means embracing and accepting them as a part of you, and taking care of yourself by getting help with those problems. Judging other's inner struggles only perpetuates the problems in our society and increases the pain they feel, supporting each other and letting out or problems to be shared is what can begin to heal the pain. |
